Compatibility Issues

Post  CrimsonWolf on Thu 23 Jun 2011, 6:01 pm

Worried about a game that you want to get not running on your system? Want to know if an old game will run on your new OS? Have any other problems with compatibility that need solving? Feel free to ask us right here - myself and Warlord James are the members of the GFD team who game on the PC the most out of the four so we'll do our best to help you. However, I'm sure the two other team members will be of help as well if we can't solve your problem. Smile

NOTE: If you already have a game and it stops working, please make a separate thread for it.

Because of my older brother, who is a wizz at computers and anything technical, I myself do not know the ins and outs of everything but he does. So i can ask him for anything computer related. If you want to check if a game will run on your computer, go to this website http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ Follow the instructions on the website and you can find out any compatability issues Smile

I love "Can You Run It?" and been using it since a long time. Smile But sadly, it's not very reliable. It does tell you roughly whether your PC will run a game or not, but it's a shame there's no option of choosing on which settings you'd like to run a game on. Besides, it skips quick solutions such as lowering your resolution. Crysis (one of the best looking games ever released, and THE best looking game of 2007) I can run on my PC, but on low to medium settings I get some frame-rate drops. Running it on anything above that is almost impossible and unplayable. System Requirements Lab says I can run it fine.

On the other hand, according to it, I can't run The Witcher 2 because I don't reach minimum settings - but something as simple as lowering the resolution and turning off AA solves it for me, and I can run it with high textures without any problems. Also, there are many other ways to run games even if you don't reach recommended or minimum settings.

In the end, the link provided is the equivalent of checking the back of a game’s box to see the requirements. The only difference being that you don't have to remember your specs, but then every hardcore PC gamer does. Laughing It's good for newcomers and it's convenient to find a game's requirements for experts and newbies alike, but not much use otherwise and it doesn't solve any compatibility issues... well, only a few, but definitely not all of them.
